There is no separate doubles table. The same surface serves both; doubles simply uses the centre line that singles ignores.
Markings and surface
- A 2 cm white line runs along each edge — the side lines and end lines.
- A 3 mm white centre line splits the table lengthwise into two half-courts, used only for doubles service.
- The surface is a uniformly dark, matte colour — usually deep blue or green — so the white or orange ball stays visible.
- The ITTF specifies bounce rather than thickness: a ball dropped from 30 cm must rebound about 23 cm, evenly across the whole surface.
Because the standard is written as a bounce test, table thickness is a manufacturer's choice. Competition tables are typically 22–25 mm; thinner tops bounce lower and less consistently.
How much room you need
The table is only part of the footprint. Players spend most of a rally behind the end line, so clearance matters more than the table's own dimensions.

For a garage or basement, the clearance behind each end is the number that decides whether the room works. A full-size table in a space with a metre behind it plays like a much smaller table.
Mini, midi and three-quarter tables
Retailers sell three common step-downs from regulation size, none of them standardised — dimensions vary by manufacturer. They are legitimate for practice and for children, and none is legal for competition. If you are learning strokes you intend to use on a full table, the distances you build muscle memory for will be wrong.

Folding and outdoor tables
Folding tables keep the regulation 274 × 152.5 × 76 cm playing dimensions but fold at the centre line into playback mode (one half stands vertically as a rebound wall for solo practice) or fold flat on wheels for storage. Folding doesn't change any of the official numbers above — a compliant folding table still measures the same as a fixed one when set up.
Public outdoor tables are usually poured concrete or welded steel rather than a folding frame, built to the same length, width and 76 cm height, but often finished with a solid metal net or divider instead of a mesh net.
